Zoom doodles and poetry crossovers

Hi everyone! I'm quite sad we won't be in class today, your energy and commitment to Emily and to each other grounds me in ways that I can't fully put into words. I thought I'd share with you something that I started this week, but I think I will continue over time. I'm not an artist by any means, but this is a doodle of Frank Bidart on Zoom I'm in his poetry seminar this semester (I believe Justine is too!), and I think it's really interesting to see personalities through their Zoom profiles. I've also been struggling personally with focusing during this nebulous, digital time and taking the time to draw either images from the poems we're discussing, or the people sharing their thoughts, and this has helped to keep my feet on solid ground. A fun crossover, we read Adrienne Rich's Diving Into the Wreck this week, and I mentioned Rich's article on Dickinson - really cool to see how things overlap!!

    This is so cool! Thanks for sharing! Adrienne Rich is my favorite poet – I love Diving Into the Wreck. And you're a great artist!!

    Hey Paige! I LOVE your drawing. At the first Zoom session of Professor Bidart's Contemporary American Poetry class, I was flabbergasted--but really shouldn't have been surprised, in retrospect--by the towering stacks of books and papers surrounding him. Your sketch makes me really happy, and so does our recent Rich/ED crossover. Thank you so much for posting this!

    (and hahaha i'm not actually enrolled in Bidart's poetry class, i just show up to lectures. but i think Audrey, unlike me, is legitimately in the course!)

A Distraction

Hi y'all! Not sure I remember how to correctly format a blog post (if this was Tumblr my muscle memory would kick in immediately) and this is not exactly on topic, but I thought I'd share something that might cheer people up....puppies! In an effort to refrain from driving each other crazy during all this, my family is fostering a sweet dog named Ginger (originally spelled Gynger but I refuse to participate in that) and her six two-week-old puppies. I have lots and lots of photos, but here are a few. Puppy name suggestions are welcome! Hope everybody is safe and doing well.

I couldn't help but pick 2 poems - upon initial reading, I don't see any connection between the two, but they both spoke to me in ways I can't fully wrap my head and heart around.
